I HAVE AN 01 450 ES THAT HAS PRETTY MUCH ALL YOU CAN DO TO IT.HERE IN WESTERN CANADA OUR ALTITUDE IS AROUND 2500 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL.THE STOCK 8:5 COMPRESSION MAKES OK POWER UNTIL YOU BOLT ON 27" TIRES.I DECIDED TO BUY HIGH LIFTERS 10:25 PISTON 0.020" OVERSIZE.I PORTED THE HEAD AT THE SAME TIME.FOR THE FIRST BREAK-IN TANK OF FUEL I MIXED PREMUIM GAS WITH VP RACING FUEL C-12 AT 50/50.THE ENGINE RUNS REALLY STRONG,SOUNDS EXCELLENT, BUT SEEMS TO RUN HOT.ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE ANY SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH THE HIGH LIFTER PISTON ???

I have just had a wiseco high compression put in with the wiseco cam but I'm only running on 91 0ctane. I've noitced a slight increase in temp but only by about 5-8 deg celcius. I have rewired my fan to run constantly with a toggle switch which has helped with the extra heat I have. I think you are running to high an octane which will add to you heating problem.
Run the lowest grade cause higher grades burn a lot hotter. Especially race fuel.
THANKS FOR THE INFO GUYS.I DRAINED MY GAS TANK AND PUT IN STRAIGHT PREMIUM FUEL.I WILL TRY AND RUN IT THIS WEEKEND TO TEST IT.IS THERE A WAY TO RUN THE FAN BOTH AUTO AND MANUALLY ???
on the back bottom of your engine there is a blue wire that hooks to a thermo sensor. splice a wire into blue wire, run it to a toggle switch and the other side of the switch, just ground it out. this way all u have to do is hit the switch and the fan will come on. when the switch is off, the fan will still be hooked up factory.
THANKS FOR THE ADVICE.SOUNDS LIKE AN EASY FIX.
there are a few different ways to hook them up. mine is set up similar, I have a three position switch on mine. this way I can turn on, off or factory

what? when you run a high compression piston you must run higher octane to keep the detination down, if you run cheap gas you are going to detionate the crap out of that piston and break something.
YOU ARE COMPLETELY CORRECT IN WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT OCTANE.THE HIGHER IT IS THE MORE COMPRESSION YOU CAN RUN.THIS IS WHY I MIXED 50/50 PUMP GAS AND VP C12 FUEL.I THINK MY MIXTURE IS TOO MUCH FOR MY COMP. RATIO, I WILL TRY USING JUST ENOUGH C12 TO PREVENT DETONATION.
piston and gas

these pistons are not so high of a compression that you need to run mid grade or premium. regular is just fine
High Compression Piston= premium gas

Also anytime your compression goes up, so does your temperature.

I had a 200x 3wheeler that I went to a 12:1 comp. piston and It wouldn't run on regular, had to have premium. It wouln't even idle right on regular.
It would create a ton more heat than the stock piston too.
so are high comperssion pistons a good thang to have for the horsepower
yeah

the high compression pistons are good for horsepower, but more than likely you wont need premium gas on a foreman i've tried both and the only difference is that the motor just gets hotter with premium. I dont know if i just got lucky but it runs fine.
I HAVE BEEN RUNNING MY QUAD NOW FOR A FEW WEEKS WITH THE H/L PISTON.I STILL MIX A LITTLE VP-C 12 WITH THE PREMIUM GAS.I SWITCHED THE ENGINE OIL TO AMSOIL 0W40.THE FAN DOESNT COME ON AS MUCH ANYMORE-PRETTYMUCH THE SAME AMOUNT AS WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY STOCK.
IM VERY HAPPY WITH THE POWER INCREASE, EVEN TURNING 27" MUDLITES.ANYONE LOOKING FOR MORE POWER THROUGHOUT THE POWER BAND SHOULD CONSIDER THIS UPGRADE.

HOMEBOY,
How much top speed have you gained??
ny450es
MY SPEEDO READS 47 MPH (I HAVE A USA SPEEDO-CANADIAN MODELS READ KPH).
THIS IS WITH 27" MUDLITES SO I DONT THINK THE ACTUAL MPH IS CORRECT.
THE PISTON DOES NOT MAKE IT FASTER TOP SPEED, IT JUST MAKES MORE POWER FROM IDLE UP TO REDLINE.
I THINK THE BIKE RUNS LOW 50'S MPH (I WISH IT HAD ANOTHER GEAR)
G
Homeboy...was hoping you were going to gain some speed. My buddy just got a stock 06 Foreman 500. He had .9miles on it....we drag raced. Needless to say my 2000 450 lacks major power. He tops out at 57mph and the bike isn't broken in yet. I figured if I did a BBK it would be like his 500. I guess they redid the gearing in the new Foremans.
