if they inspected it and it was still making the noise I would of left it there until they repaired it. They shouldn't of even let you take it. But like said above if it shows water damage or abuse, you will have to foot the bill.

If your confident it doesn't have water in it, I would make them fix it. Thats bs that he told you to ride it like it is, I would have told him to stick it where the sun don't shine! Your warranty should cover everything. Now if you put the filter in backwards thats another story alltogether......

If you are sure that now water or mud has ever gotten in it, then I wouldnt leave until it was fixed. Tell them you didnt pay $6000 for a "half broke" four wheeler. If you are losing that much compression, then you are also losing power.

mine did the exact same thing but it never smoked but knocked a lot. This all happend within a month that i bought it. They told me the same thing that mine had water damage. Well once they took it apart my piston were scared. So that led to a hold re built engine which didn't need to be done. When I brought them the bike I told them that it was the connecting rod that was making the noise and they told me it was the pistons. So I let them do what they want a replace the engine. They never changed the connecting rod until after the whole thing was put back together and it was still knocking. So need less to say it cost me 1300.00 for a bike that was a month old. They also told me water got in the engine through the out put shaft seal which was leaking. So take it for what it is worth but they are trying to screw you like they screwed me. Sorry for the long post

i know a man who bought a lemon...like your 4wheeler...and they wouldnt fix it so he parked it across the street from the dealer and put a sign that said that he bought it from that dealer and it was a lemon and just left it there and finally the dealer asked him what it would take for him to remove it and he said to fix it and they did......

Oil filter was put in backwards.. therefore starving the motor of oil.. and prob burnt the rings? and maybe did some damage on the top end?

I haven't changed the oil & filter in my bike yet but was wondering is it that easy to put the filter in backwards? What should I watch for?

The filter is stamped with "inside" or "torwards engine" I can not recall for sure exactly what it says.

Pissed at who?????????????.................sorry man but you put the oil filter in backwards. Bet you don't make that mistake again!!

Better luck next time, but it isn't Honda's fault. We need to take responsibility for our actions. I don't want to lecture but it makes me upset that you knew it was your fault and still tried to screw your dealer.

I'll stop now, sorry about your luck and I hope everything works out for ya!!

I had every right to be pissed at honda because I had never even changed the oil in it so how could i've put the filter in backwards. This all happend within a month of the purchase of the 4 wheeler. But who cares its over with. Worrying is just like rocking it gives you something to do but gets you no where

What, you mean that you bought the machine with the oil filter in backwards? I have to apologize, my understanding was that you changed the oil and filter and when you were riding it started smoking. Later finding out that you put the filter in backwards.

Again I apologize for misunderstanding your situation, good day!!!

When I was riding this afternoon I noticed it losing power. I stopped and checked the oil. It was perfect. So I keep riding, then I noticed it was smoking white smoke every now and then. So I stopped and checked the oil again..................... We changed the oil and oil filter yesterday but I have rode 10 miles since then so I need some input.

shops try to get away with a lot because people either let them or figure they have no other choice. A lot of shops look at the customer as stupid, and will believe anything they tell them. Make sure that if they tell you something you know is not true that you stand your ground.

If water got in by the output shaft, seems like Honda should cover under warranty. These things are designed to go through some water. Maybe not submersed, but should be able to get wet and if seal on output shaft is leaking, sounds like it should be their problem and not yours.

if your seal leaks within the first couple months it was not put in right.. I had a bearing go bad on my after 1 month cause they didn't put the seal on right. Its common for honda to do that. even the head mechanic at the local honda shop told me that.
