HELP (Stuck in Gear)

My friend has a 350 Rancher ES, I'm guessing b/w 02-04. He went to load it up today to ride and it wouldn't start because it was stuck in gear. It is on a flat surface so that's not an issue. You can turn the key on and it shows the 2 "flashing" on and off. If you press the up or down buttons nothing happens. We are not the most mechanically inclined people, but if pushed in the right direction were almost dangerous! If someone has any ideas please let me know.

With the accessory shifter shift bike into neutral .. Count the number of flashes this is the self diagnostic code ..
Honda Mechanic, Thanks for the info I had no idea about the accessory shifter. The Rancher has no tool kit anymore, will my shifter that came with my Foreman work? I'll have him count the flashes. I didn't count them when I was there but I think it was just flashing constantly, but I check for a pattern. THANKS AGAIN
Yes it's the same emergency shifter .. Here's the flash codes for the TRX350

Are these codes the same for 400 AT's and other bikes?

B
No the codes aren't the same for all models.. This is the TRX400FG/FGA transmission codes ..

My buddy just called me. He got it in neutral with the emergency shifter, he said that it is blinking 3 times. Looking at the chart, 3 lines up with a problem involving the angle sensor or wiring harness. Honda Mechanic, what is the next step? Does he need to just take it in or is there something else he can do? Thanks for all your help!
There are a few tests in section #22 .. This is the PDF file from the Honda shop manual ..

On the front of the engine, right side, down low you'll see a metal cover held on with 2 bolts. There WILL be wires going into that cover. It covers the angle sensor. If you feel qualified, take the cover off and remove the sensor. First clue that it might be bad is if you see "Mexico" stamped into it where the wires connect. Do a search for a post (most likely from Honda Mechanic) about the test you can do to the sensor. Wifey's went bad on her 05 Rancher right after the warranty was up. Not a real expensive part and fairly simple to change it out.
If its an ES shake it and shift down and that works.
I have 2 - 2004 honda 350 ES 4x4, they both have had angle sensors replaces under warranty. I have had to replace them both at my own expense. They are around $100 Canadian. The last one I bought is a new part number. The new ones seem to have no problem even when in the water.
I have a 2003 rancher 350 Es. I am having similar problems with mine being stuck in 4th gear but I shook it I strapped it to another 4wheeler and pulled it and used the manual shifter and it's still stuck in gear. Anybody got a clue what my problem may be?
Welcome to the forum. Most likely it's the shift arm under the front cover that failed. The front cover will have to be removed to inspect that though.
