fouling spark plug

6384 Views 12 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  mudbogger50
i put on pipe and jet kit a week ago. i turned the air/fuel screw out 2 1/2 turns. went on first ride over weekend and my bike was "bogging down" in heavy water acting like it wanted to die. carb is clean and the drain line is plugged.

pulled my spark plug tonight and it is bad fouled. i used the right jet. now figuring i need to fine tune the screw to help the plug. which way do i need to turn it and how much.

would this cause it to run crappy when in water. i put dielectric grease on everything i took loose. thanks for your help.

heh, I will admit it was sorta funny though, hit a deep hole come out die
Some have had to turn it out a little more to get it runnin' right. Give that a try. At worst, You could turn it back. Aint' got nuthin' to loose...

real funny. ha. ha. i was definately consistently deeper than ive been on other rides, had a freakin blast. i called hmf, i have jets that they send out, and they said to put the 165 in it. i have a 170 on it now.

im actually changing it out now and using rincon 650's plans for the snorkel. came back in to look at plans again.

i got my bi/tri's today and got them on my stock wheels. dang they look evil and the people that changed them hadnt ever seen anything like them. i hope it will fit on my trailor tomorrow. we are riding around noon at same area if ya wanna try to go.

im working on trying to get your snorkel kit on. did you use 1 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch hose. couldnt find a accessory kit but bought both hoses.
2 2/4 hose. The bigger of the 2. The easiest way to tell is use the 90 degree elbow and go to the HVAC isle and fit it into the hose. Find the PVC elbow that fits the hose and your in business... Good luck and I expect to see pics of the final product.. Modify anything that you need to , and you will be able to see what you can modify and what you can not. It is very basic and I apologize for the long directions. Just wanted you to get the jist of it. GO FOR IT.. I WANT PICS
2 2/4....WHAT ???? I mean 2 1/2.. Sorry .. They say that 4 out of 3 people have difficulties with fractions. I am obviously one of them...
BEFORE THE SUBJECT CHANGE TO SNORKLING, I WAS WONDER WHAT JOECAMEL EVER FIGURED OUT ABOUT HIS BIKE BOGGING DOWN. MINE IS DOING THE SAME THING UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS. IF ANY CAN HELP, PLEASE............
Mine used to do that, before snorkeling it. Occasionally when we would hit the deep water fast, the hot motor would throw off steam and I think the steam getting into the intake caused a hesitation in the motor and that may help to foul the plug. (Thats a nasty run-on sentence gramar students)

I am not saying to snorkel it, but look into entering deep water a little slower that may lessen the effects, if in fact it is caused by steam.

Also grease the voltage rectifier. The is on the right side of the rear storage box along the frame. There are two elec. plugs that go into it. That may help you as well.

i was fouling out plugs and changed the air/fuel mixture, but didnt help any. i called HMF and told them the problem i was having. they told me to put in a 165 jet, which i got my jets from them. i put my snorkel and chaned jets, and set my air/fuel mixture back. voila no more problems now. i hope this helps you.
did you just add your snorkel since you've had the trouble or did you add it because you had trouble. so say that did changing the jet help or did changing both help. i don't have snorkel but thinking about putting one on. should i change out just the jet to a 165

i changed my jet because i was fouling the plugs bad the air/fuel mixture didnt do anything for the problem. HMF told me to put the 165 in it. i add the snorkel at the same time as i changed the jet. i did that so i if things changed when i added the snorkel i wouldnt have to mess with things again.

the jets i have arent dyno. not sure of brand HMF sent a 160, 165, and 170 with the pipe.
when you put in the jet kit in it put more gas in the cylinder then air. clean your air filter. eather you have a air restriction or the jet is to big.
