The only thing that I would plan out pretty well is where the plate bolts up on the bottom, the bolts are recessed in the skid plate in the skid plate. If you are going to use something that thick you might have a problem bending it in you might want weld some kind of spacer to it where the bolts go or jsut get a big hammer and beat the **** out of it.
This is what I did to solve the recessed bolt prob.....It didn't work but that is another story....I took a large socket and put in a vise..Layed the metal over where you drilled the hole...Then I took another socket(a little smaller) and used it along with a large hammer and made a recess in the metal..Worked great to make the recess in the skid....Now what didn't work is it was the bottom of an aluminum tool box and the metal was too thin and tore right around the drilled hole that I recessed...But with thicker metal you should not have any probs.
