Hello,
I have a 98 foreman that I bought used. Guy had done a top end rebuild, said ticking was from valves that needed adjusted after so many hours of riding. I rode it around multiple times, set and set and set valve lash with little to no change in the ticking. Thought maybe the timing chain was slacked so I got in there and found nothing wrong, replaced it for the **** of it. Put it all back together and it’s still ticking! I need ideas!

I have an 04 Foreman and mine does the same thing. I think all Hondas have a natural tick from what I've heard and from experience. As long as it's not making metal or affecting performance I wouldn't worry about it. Does it tick pretty good when you first give it gas like in low rpm's?

If i were you, i'd take the head off and check your valve seats. it's not very common but it can happen. With overheating the valve seat (mainly the exhaust) can heat up and the valve seat can start slowly recessing lower throwing off your valve lash. or, remove your rocker assembly and check your rocker adjustment. If one of them is unevenly adjusted to get a certain valve lash then you know you have a valve seat issue. Just thought i'd throw in my 2 cents! i could be wrong though! i bought my foreman guy said it was piston slap, crazily? enough it was the valve seat popping in and out of the seat. i found that out the hard way! waiting for a new head now!
