This is my first post on here, Im kinda new to the atv world. Ive got a 1996 foreman 400 4x4 running a 2" lift. Ive heard that you can get more lift out my bike by running a 1998 or newer foreman 450 front suspension and all 4 shocks. Is this true? If so what years will fit? What parts on the front end would I have to swap with the 450 bike? Ive heard you just need upper and lower a arms on both sides, cv shafts, knuckles and all 4 shocks from the 450 and everything will bolt right in. Is this possible and how much lift should I expect to gain running this set up? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks S. Masson

yes the 450 supension will fit, you will have to tweak one of the bottom mounts and add a washer to make up the difference for it to fit. I have two 400 frames with 450 supensions on them.

You will need upper and lower a-arms, knuckles and axles. There are a few different options for shocks. you can just use you 400 shocks with a lift. you can buy 450 shocks front and rear or move you rear 400 shocks up front and buy 450 rears. with the rear 400 shocks up front you will need to install a spacer in the top mount of the rear shocks for them to bolt up. if you ever had one of them off you will know what I am talking about.

here is a pix of the wifes 400 with 27" tires. it has 450 front supension up front and 400 rear shocks with lift kit in the rear.

Here is one of mine. a 400 frame with 450 supension up front and 450 shocks all around. it has 28" tires with no liftkit added

Thanks alot for the info dirtyman. Im bidding on a 2000 450 front suspension right now and I just wanted to make sure it would work. I guess Im gonna run my 400 rear shocks up front and buy some 450 rear shocks for the rear since I already have the 2" lift. Thanks again and any more info on the subject would be greatly appreciated since youve already done 2 swaps.
