Florida Foreman Owners...

Quick question guys...I bought my 500 from Southern Honda in Tenn. I was told that the state of Florida does not issue or require and title and registration for ATV's. Is this correct? I was at my local Honda dealer this afternoon and the salesman tried to tell me how buying an ATV out of state, wether you can buy it cheaper or not, is a big mistake because you'll end up paying taxes when you register it and title it. My response was...what title, what registration. Florida doesn't issue either for an ATV...to my understanding. So for you Southern Honda buyers or any buyer for that matter...Am I correct? Or, am I in trouble?

I know on the last one that I bought I purchased t from a friend, no title, registration nothing. I was still able to register it to ride on public land. I haven't check on my foreman yet I have not ridden anywhere yet that requires it. Champions told me the same thing your were told, I think it is just a sales tactic.

My friend bought 4 ATVs from Lakehill in MS. They did not charge him tax at the time. But almost a year later he got a letter from the state of FL saying he now had to pay those taxes. I don't beleive Southern Honda turns in the paperwork to FL as Lakehill did. But just keep it in mind you may end up having to pay it in the long run.

I had to pay for my bike to be registered when I bought it in Dec, $32. I think all new bikes require it now.
all bikes newr then 2002 need to be register but its a 1 time fee. Yes your gonna have to pay state tax on your atv. Dealerships are required to turn the paper work into the state you live in.
How do I go about registering? Do I simply take the bill of sale to the tag office? The salesman at Southern Honda told me he didn't think they called in any out of state sales. Wish they would have been up front! Don't mind paying the taxes to make it legal, just would like to know how to go about it.
I guess call the tag office and ask about registering an off-highway vehicle, to see what they say. I doubt a local dealership would help you much since you did not buy from them.
You need an application for Florida title, invoice from purchase,Form HSMV 82040 and a manufactures state of origin and go to fl tag agency and explain situation. This info is from my mother who work for the county tag agency in Ft.Laud.She told me this is very common and the salesman are aware of what they need to do legally. It sound like the dealership is also responsible to send paper work to the state in which buyer is from, she said sometimes they dont follow up on sending paperwork and things get lost .You will have to pay Fl sales tax in order to title it,down south they require a photocopy of title or bill of sale to prove ownership...GOOD LUCK AND HOPE I COULD HELP YA...
Thanks for the info. I definetely wasn't aware of that!
What is the point of registering and title?? Is it something that has to be done?
Yea it has to be done well on all atv's 2002 or newer. I think some of the money is going to something to have atv areas or atv parks or something like that.
And what happens if you dont, out of curiosity? My 2002 Foreman now is not registerd.
i am not sure because it you get stopped and dont have a reg in onf i heard you can get a ticket but i also they dont push on it that hard. That guy we met with that green polaris at 5a told us about the registration.
You wont catch me there again. hehe, my bike now isnt registerd or anything.
If it is ever stolen and they get it back(yeah right) how else could you prove it is yours?

or if you sell it or trade it in to a dealer.
what
I've got a 2005 and I've never payed any registration on it? Plus, I think this is the only bike I've ever owned with a title.
i dont have a title for my bike either and i bought mine from tennesse and as far as i konw i havent paid any taxes on it yet either and i bought it in feb of 06 i think that it is a bunch of crap to have to register something that is never goign to touch the road
My brother rode in Cape San Blas, FL last year and he told me he had to buy a $100 permit to ride in the state park and on the beach. He said he had to prove ownership of his bike as well! I thought that was highway robbery he was only there for a few days. He said locals only paid $10. Anyway I know the state of GA doesn't require you to register your ATV. That really sucks for the people who bought there ride from Southernhonda.
