A couple of times, it seemed a little harder to get into 1st from neutral, but not that big of a deal. The getting out of reverse problem really burned me up, knowing that I had never had that problem before and I also just had it worked on. I am not saying that my dealer screwed it up. I'm just wanting to know if there are some adjustments that can be or that need to be made because of the clutch update or is there a break-in period after the modification? I have also read a few things about a sensor that may need to be cleaned. Is that a difficult task or a procedure that I can do?
It's possible the clutch didn't get adjusted correctly or not at all. Something to check next time it doesn't shift w/ the ES, try shifting w/ the manual shifter in the tool kit. If it shifts, then its electrical. If it doesn't, its mechanical, and possibly could be related to the clutch update, maybe, maybe not.

Could you elaborate on the method of "shifting with the manual shifter in the toolkit" for those that don't know.

Honda supplies every ES machine w/ a shift lever that you put on the shift shaft. You basically then shift just like a standard S model, except its not meant to be permanent or shifted w/ your foot. Use your hand and shift the tranny into gear. If you get a situation where the ES won't shift the machine, put the manual lever on and if it shifts, your problem is electrical. The owners manual can explain this better than I can here, and I can explain it a lot better to a customer when pre-delivering their new machine if they can see what I'm trying to tell them.

Thanks! When I swamped my ride the owner's manual got kind of wet and soggy. So needless to say it got garbaged. Wish those things were water proof!

I went on a long ride last night and little problem. It would not shift into 5th a few times but not to much other than that. It was a lot warmer, I'm wondering if this has something to do with it?

Mine has only been there a few times lol. If I wanted to go fast I would have gotten a 450r.

If your engine RPM is too high, it will not shift from reverse into neutral (it's a computer thing). When I bought the bike the mechanic just pushed the choke in and BINGO! problem solved. Maybe your idle RPM is too high? Hope this helps.

when i have to hit the highway when i get up above about 45 mine wont come out of high gear, when i get on it hard in any gear i wont shift out of it it gets old i cleand and d-electric greased the sensor on the side of the card (my dealer said that one has something to do with it) i know when i took it of it blinked in neautral so i suppose they new something but it gets old having to shut it down to change gears, sorry so long but would like some help

Mine has gotten better with more miles and hours. It still gives me fits but I think it will take a while to get use to it because it has a computer and we all know how they can be. It does get old and I wonder why honda has not gotten it fixed. It might work like they want it to I guess. If you ride it like you should I bet it does work right, but who want's to ride it like they should? I wish I would have gotten a foot shift but it's to late now, I will have to live with it for a few years. I love the thing other than that!
