I BOUGHT A VENOM 2500LB WINCH OFF EBAY. THE WINCH WORKS GREAT, EASY TO INSTALL. I DID BUY A PACKAGE THOUGH, WHICH INCLUDED THE MOUNT FOR THE 05-06 FORMAN. I THINK I GOT IT FOR JUST ABOUT $125 OR SO. IVE HAD IT ABOUT 4 MONTHS NOW, AND ONLY HAD TO USE IT TWICE. IT IS MY NEW BEST FRIEND.
I have a 05 Foreman 500 and I too have the Venom 2500 winch from Ebay. I have only had to use it 3 times and it work great each time. I did have some problems getting the mount plate bolted on. The front to mounts on the plate that go to the frame was hard to get the bolt through. I had to ream out the holes a little bigger to get the bolts through the plate. I drew a square around the bolt and bracket that I had problems with.
They look very similar to name brand winches to me. For the $$ it may be worth a try for you. I would not get below a 2,500lb winch and you may want to look into getting a snatch block to double the power of the winch. You never know when you may need it.
Warn wrote the book when it comes to winches. MileMarker uses same 3-stage planetary gearing but has bigger motor. I've had six winches and the only ones to have failed have been the Ramsey's. I will never buy another Ramsey, Warn's have been rock solid for me.
I was thinking about getting a winch to put on gabby’s bike. The only thing is we have broke 2 warn 2500 winches so far. I was looking at the mile marker 3500. Truegrit you have a mile marker correct? How will the 3500 do long term with the type of riding we do (Lots of water and thick mud).
