Downshifting rattle ???

Hi guys..new member, been poking around for a while...

got an 02 Foreman 450 es.....there seems to be an issue when shifting down to third gear while riding. However, all gears shift perfect frm N, all the way up to 5th gear...but when slwing down from a decent rate of speed, sometimes when you go from 4th to 3rd..there seems to be a 2 second delay while you hear a loud rattle....like a chain or something. (sorry, best way i can describe the sound). when going from 4 to 3rd at a slower speed you don;t hear the rattle at all and there is no delay...any ideas guys ? this never happend on my Rubicon.

I had a 2004 500 Rubicon with ESP, sold it, and picked up this 2002 Foreman 450 es. Nice, light, nimble, and love the 2x4 vs 4x4 selector...any help would be great...cheers!

rattle

has anyone encoutered this before ?

thanks in advance.
I haven't, have you tried adjusting the clutch? The adjustor is located on the front cover of the motor above the front driveshaft. Here is an old post by HM for adjusting it.
QUOTE ("Honda Mechanic":16qm1jui)
Loosen the clutch adjusting screw lock nut. Slowly turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise until resistance is felt. Then turn the adjusting screw clockwise 1/4 turn, and tighten the lock nut to the
specified torque.
TORQUE: 22 N-m (2.2 kgf-m, 16 lb.ft)
After adjustment, start the engine and check for proper clutch operation.
