Hi all I'm in the process of doing research for an ATV trail mapping system that I am developing and need input from the ATV riding community. This is a system that will be accessible in every state and will allow for the community to contribute to the trail database. Please help me out by completing the brief survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeGH3Bi6kjx7t8p2TZpgm_l5NjLlR-K7ecUU95ILh7OTI8Emg/viewform

I'd be happy to answer any additional questions or input about the system on this thread. Thanks for your help to make a great community better!

well sounds like a great idea, minus the fact about 90% of atv riding in MY state happens on private land and most of it by atv riders trespassing
SO a map showing where folks ride would make more illegal riding happen and could be a legal problem for you??

add in the fact what is open today MIGHT be closed tomorrow

its a hard deal to make, as things change so often it seems, ATV trails, are NOT like Snowmobile trails that have more elaborate systems in place , but even there , trails change so often its crazy, as a TON of the land used for these trail systems are thru private lands and from YR to YR they have to work out land usage, and as land access changes, trails then change too, so, a map showing one yrs trail, could have a person riding on private property illegality .

great idea but doesn't ever seem to work out, MAPS for riding that is!
been riding snowmobiles for 30 yrs and ALL trails change in all the states I have rode them in!

You are aware this an ATV forum and not a snowmobile forum right? The goal is to have continually updated content on the ATV trails. It will be community fed and have moderators to help prevent the listings of trails on private property. And because it's community fed and updated it is highly likely that someone will update the information if it is found that the area is on private property or has been closed. We're trying to increase the supporting community and help others to be informed on where they can or can't ride. I would hope that the members on here that own ATV's would also be interested in doing so.

GEEZE"S this ISN:"T a SNOWMOBILE SITE?
WOW< I had NO clue
REALLY??
I'm the only one that even tried to offer help to you and you wish to try and talk down to me??

and YES I know this si an ATV site, been here a LOT longer than you have!

and WHO is going to be doing these updates, WILL they have LEGAL power to do so and IF a person follows the info and gets Caught on private property, will they be liable??

as WHAT good is a map if the info on it wrong or gets a user in trouble?

that is MY point, MOST states have very LAX info on LEGAL trails for ATV"S
there NOT up to speed as SNOWMOBILE trails systems are, due to AGE of machines and how funding is put to use
and even with SNOWMOBILE trails, they change SO often that maps from yr to yr are seldom correct , most clubs donb';t eve show maps for the season till the season starts and even then MANY change during the season!

SO GOOD luck with your project for ATV mapping, your going to need it! and odds are with your people skills your going to have a even harder time at it!~ LOL

This sounds like a great resource and I look forward to seeing this develop over time. I know that out here in the Western side of the country where we know the difference between 4 wheels(ATV's) and one track(snowmobiles), we will use the crap out of this. If you ask me, the legal part isn't of your concern as far as liability because its clear that you are trying to leverage the good nature of MOST of this community and would encourage legal and responsible use of trails and public lands. Just make sure you add a terms of use and try your best to verify trails when you can. If all good things had to be perfect before they were used we wouldn't ever get anywhere in life. I will make sure to encourage members that have productive feedback to take your survey and help. Keep up the good work there will always be people that will try to keep you down but that's ok someone must have just pissed in their cheerios lol.

oh and this is posted under the WESTERN US right? or am i just crazy? lol
