In the lower end of my 450's motor...toward the front where the clutch adjuster is....there is a noise that sounds like something is loose. Are there any belts or chains in that area that would make a noise. It almost sounds like a problem I had in one of my vehicles when the tensioner for the timeing chain was bad/loose.

Or could it be the clutch just needs adjusted?

I have no idea. But I did have a guy who owns a couple Hondas listen to it, and he said that something deffinetly sounds different than any he has heard.

But the noise seems to be less noticable if the bike has been running for a while and is really warmed up.

ANY IDEAS WHAT IT MAY BE?

I'm hopeing it is not the cam chain or something, cause I don't even want to know how much that would be to fix.

Its been making the noise since I bought it back in October. I just recently asked the guy who happened to have a honda if his sounded that way and he said no.

Is it an easy fix for a timing chain. Or is it something you have to take it to a dealer to fix? How much would it be to have a dealer fix it?

Just wondering.

I ride it every day usually, for a little zip around the yard and such. It seems to run fine, the timeing doesn't seem to be off any.

Could it be anything else. Does the chain and tensioner make noise normally. When everything is fine. I've never owned another 4 wheeler other than this one, so I'm not use to the sounds they make.

I really don't know what I'm hearing....and maybe he didn't either. SOMETIMES it makes me think of valve chatter....SO WHO KNOWS. Like I said, it runs fine, or seems to. And still has great power.

Does anyone live around Fairmont, West Virginia that could stop by and listen to the thing run? Someone who knows a little about engines and has been around a Foreman 450 that knows what it should or should not sound like.

I hate to take it to the dealer and have them look at it for nothing and charge me for the time it took them to look at it. THOSE HOURLY LABOR CHARGES SUCK .

No it doesn't make any strange or bad noises when turning it off, it sound normal or the same always. It usually is more noticable in the beginning when first starting the bike. After it runs a while and warms up it doesn't seem as noticable, or else I just get use to it. But it never sounds bad bad, like ticking. It just sounds like something moving loosely or rubbing on something kinda. At first I thought it sounded like the piston moving up and down in its sleave, but then I thought it sounded like it was making the noise lower in the engine. Like I said, the power and everything seems fine, unless its been messed up since I got it. I don't notice any missing or hesitation at any time. So I would imagine the timeing is ok.

SO REALLY I CAN'T EXPLAIN IT WELL....I wish I could get someone to stop by and listen to it. Someone that owns a Foreman 450S, so they know what the engine/etc... is supposed to sound like.

How much $ do you think it would cost to get this repaired at a dealer?

GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS!

I took it to the dealer, and the guy came out to my bike and listened to it and said that there was nothing wrong with it and not to waste my $ trying to fix it. He said the noise I was hearing was just the everyday noise of a push rod motor. He let me listen to another 02 Foreman he had in for service. The only difference in sound was the ticking in the one in for service. He said that it needed a valve adjustment.

SO ANYWAY, all is good....NO PROBLEMS HERE.

Now I can get to installing my PERFEX kit and my Floor Boards.
