I wonder who's responsible for maintaining that bridge? The same thing could happen to someone else!

The local ATVclub is responsible form keeping up the the old railroad...They have fixed alot of old bridge's but not all of them(lack of $fund's$) The yellow sign in the pic's is a warning sign ENTER AT OWN RISK...... He must have been going pretty fast judging by the damage to the quad....I cross that bridge all the time with no problem but I slow down to 2nd or 3rd gear....

Gotta be more than 5 hundo. A-arm mounts are all messed up, I would expect the frame to be bent. When I had to replace the frame on my Cat it ran me $2800. He's lucky that he was ridin' a Honda, I know my Cat's would have crumpled like an accordion in that same scenerio.

I just get so pissed off when someone is killed or in an accident and the first question always seems to be............"was he wearing a helmet"?

All I'm saying is that when these things happen, its a sad reminder that accidents suck, but they usually suck less if you've got a lid on. Accidents happen with or without a helmet, I just won't be taking as many chances is all. With so many variables you can't control - trail condition, bike condition, weather condition, stupid drivers, whatever, it's probably just a good idea to take head injuries out of the equation.
Bottom line, I hope this guy is going to be fully ok.

Wearing a helmet should never be a question. I used to have street bikes and seen friends crash, and the only way they survived was because of a helmet. I also knew someone on an ATV who hit his head on the handle bars and died due to head injury. Just because you aren't going 120mph doesn't mean you cant get killed. The guy on the ATV was only going 40mph.Myself, wife and child all wear helmets.
I crashed a 1985 250 suzuki a few years back with no helmet. Had a buddy on the back and lost it on a turn. Only going about 30mph maybe 20mph. Rolled the bike and ripped my face to shreds. 50 stitches across my forehead, nose, sewed my upper lip back on to my face, and chin. Also brike my nose and dislocated my throttle thumb. Most of the damage was to my face which could have been avoided with a helmet. Have pics but no scanner. We wear full face with shields up here, the same as street bikes. Get caught with out one you pay $160 bucks.

There has been 2 people get killed around here without them in the last 6 months. Another guy got all messed up without one on. I have never heard of someone getting hurt because they had one on. That's kinda the way I look at it. And I like to stay out of the dog house if you know what I mean!

glad to hear hes going to be keep us posted. i wish i was back in my home town and could ride a quad to and from work again a helmet saved my life once, still ended up with a sever concution and a verry verry spotty memorie. but to this day i still have the same helmet to show every one. the whole inside stirephome has a crack from one side to the other. cant' imagin what my buddies woudl have had to look at if i wasn't wearing it.

Well I will go on the record that I always wear a helmet. That said, riding an ATV is just like racing a car or riding a sport bike. There is an element of danger, part of which makes it fun for me. Mentally you have to believe no matter what happens to you, your gonna walk way, because your such a tough S.O.B. they could not castrate you with a chainsaw! But if that day comes, and you are in a bad place, you gotta be prepared to pay that cost, sometimes its just breaking something on the bike, sometimes you just break, other times its the ultimate cost. Ready or not you have to be prepared to pay that cost. I am not saying not to have any fear, but do not let your fear control you. Its like my buddy, JHRRLD, on here. 1st time out with this Brute this weekend. Were going down this place they called the Widow-maker. Didn't know it was there till we got on it, and saw a bunch of people at the bottom watching. I made it down, off-camber to the left, 80+ feet up on the side of a hill, 2wd, 27" tires and a 2" lift. I get to the bottom and they are telling me your buddy is rolling. He tapped the front brake and it came over left, the back rack caught on a tree right there and it stopped on its side. Otherwise, it would ahve been all the way down. Bent the back right side of the rack, but other than that it was fine. We pushed the bike over and walked it down with 4 guys holding on to the corners of it. He told me when I picked him up to go on this trip he dreamed he rolled his bike. My first words to him after seeing he was alright was," Josh, dreams really do come true"!
