A simple phone call to any Honda dealer will tell you if your machine qualifies for the update. Remember this is NOT a recall, it is a product update. There is a difference between the two, but both are done at no cost to the customer.

Here's a list of affected machines:

2005 TRX500FE
1HFTE317*54000001 thru 012366
2006 TRX500FE
1HFTE317*64100001 thru 102879
2005 TRX500FM
1HFTE310*54000001 thru 011415
2006 TRX500FM
1HFTE310*64100001 thru 102051
2005 TRX500TM
1HFTE314*54000001 thru 010932
2006 TRX500TM
1HFTE314*64100001 thru 101039

I never got a letter but when i called the honda shop about my clutch kit they told me i had a recall on the cluth kit on both of my 05's they just run your vin # ....like he said i would call make sure you have your vin # ready all they will do is run it.and tell you if you have one....
My 2005 Foreman fits the numbers for the update. I run stock tires and no harsh muddin. Would it be worth for me to get a clutch kit to put in at same time? What would it do for me to put one in if it is worth putting in at this time. Will wait to see before bringing it in. Have read a lot of posts about the clutch kits, but nothing about what it actually does to help. Only for deep mud?
What does this clutch upgrade/recal thing do?
Make it shift better or something?
I talked to the mechanic at the Honda shop when they changed mine, and he showed me what they change and why. They change the main clutch plate because they say it is too thin and could "fail" (break apart) and dammage a whole bunch of internals. It is #5 on the parts picture, that gets replaced

The dealer in Miramichi NB said the internal spline dia. on part #5 was machined a little large and becomes loose on the splined mating shaft (which apparently was machined a little small. This causes the plate to start "flopping" (slightly) making noise and in the long term could possibly fail.
This prompted the recall.
Later.
My numbers fit the above numbers but I brought my atv to the dealer for my 20 hour/100 mile service and when picked up atv, was told my atv was not on the update list. Said did not need update. Hope he was right.
I got the recall letter...

Is there any advantage to a "clutch kit" if you have a manual shifter? I would think not as a manual tranny locks firmly in gear.

I thought I would ask, as the FM models DO have clutches...
