Hi Gang,

Seriously considering a clutch kit for my Foreman and have a few questions for the more experianced. Thinking of taking the "chicken route" and letting the dealer install it. Especially after pricing the Clutch tool and having the added insurance of them being responsible if I have any problems later and/or any warranty issues.

#1- What seems to be the going rate for a dealer to install this?

#2- Is there an difference in the HL kit vs the EPI kit other than the gasket included with the HL kit?

#3- Any downsides to the kit like not being able to have the option of taking off slowly and smoothly like stock after the install?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thank you very much for your advise. I have noticed your advise here is always very good.

I checked with the dealer and they quoted $220ish for doing the install and based that on the Honda book time for replacing a clutch. Since the clutch tool itself was quoted at $125 I figured it was almost a no brainer to let them do it.

I am fully capable of doing the install with many, many years of mechanical experiance, I am just pushed for time with so many work related projects and wanted to take the "easy" way!

Thanks again,

Dave

The only thing you will notice with the kit is the 500 rpm delay, which is what it is supose to do. After a little while you will not even notice it being there.
BTW, in all the posts here I have seen concerning clutch kits, your comment is the best I have seen that makes me understand what the kit does. For some reason I thought it made the clutch grab sooner, with your comment I now understand it actually is the opposite and lets the engine spin up more before engaging the clutch, makes total sense..

Thanks to everyone for the advice and encouragement, I give up and am going to make the time to do it myself. Now that I think about it I have never been satisfied with anything that I had someone else do anyway.

On top of that I just finished putting 70+ miles on it on the Hatfield McCoy trails this weekend and it is time for an oil change and valve check/adjust. I had planned to do this myself and doing it all at the same time will save a little time/effort.

Parts will be ordered tomorrow!!!

Thanks again, you guys are great!

....but for putzing around the house or things that i don't want alot of throttle, i don't much care for it.
That was my only concern, thank you very much for your feedback. I am now gonna wait until I get my new exhaust system on and rejetted before I make my final decision.
