Changed Gear Oil

i just changed my gear oil... the front was milked... and the back was YELLOW! I dont mean a little yellow tent... i mean deep yellow. lol but after changing the oil i drove down the street and it seems as if its easier for me to change gears, its much smoother. (i have a manual) is this from changing the oil or is this all in my head?
