Ok, what you are saying is that the whole spring has the thick coils at both ends and the 2nd picture is the spring cut in have and then the 2 halfs are laying next to each other correct? And then you just use one of the 2 halfs of the spring right? Then put it back together.

Correct, the top spring is the one I installed and the 2 springs together are the end result after cutting it in half. The spring should have 13 coils after cutting, including the one's that are bunched together at the top.

No, i haven't tried it out yet, it's been to cold here lately but I may try it tonight since my driveway needs plowing. I'll let you know how it works out.

OK, i used the Foreman to plow my driveway last night and i wasn't sure if there was a difference. Maybe the weight of the plow wouldn't allow it to take off like i was expecting. When it warms up i'll take the plow off and give it another try, hopefully that will be soon cause it's friggin freezin up here!!

Well i got to take the Foreman for a spin without the plow yesterday, it appears to me that the carb spring mod works. It was pretty cold yesterday so i didn't get to really test it out like i wanted so the test continues.

Nahhhh, it will warm up in a couple more months and hopefully some of this new fallen snow will melt right along with it. Got over 12 inches Saturday night/Sunday morning, man what a chore plowing my driveway!

I've heard that cutting the carb spring will just make your throttle softer. The only "con" that I can think of is when your trail riding and it's a pretty bumpy ride. You know how easy it is to bump that throttle without paying too much attention. That would be my luck! Hit that throttle by mistake and either throwing myself or a passenger off the dern thing.

I was plowing my driveway on Sunday morning and went to lean over the front of my Foreman, hit the throttle with my body going in reverse and alomst went into the woods in about 2 feet of snow but I've done that before, just gotta be more careful. Railroader, it was -4 out at my place this morning, their saying it won't start getting warm for at least another 4-5 days. Even i'm starting to get cold!

Carb Spring

I tried this on my 05' and it works. I havent rode it yet but just blipping the throttle I can tell a difference. Kinda like changing timing advance springs in a distributor on a car. Thats kinda the same effect I get from it, faster throttle response.

Yes we do...This allows you to have better throttle response as well as softer throttle. Then we bought the Jet Kit for $50 and this comes with the proper spring, main jet as well as the Needle valve. All of this makes a world of difference. Would have bought it before but didnt know it was that cheap. Give it a try. I have actually seen people clip the spring in the middle of the woods and seen a world of difference. GIT-R-DONE, and see what happens

for most of us a jet kit is inevitable...

I haven't bought mine yet but the thought of just purchasing a 170 main jet and clipping the spring seems like a good enough improvement - the main jet is the most important.

Would the dealers have a Jet I could buy? should be around $2.00. A homebrew Jet kit mod is pretty **** cool


Also do you feel the needle provided in the jet kit and valve are substantially different? Has anyone here with a 500 only changed the Jet and clipped the spring?

SO I was out mounting my mudbugs... man those are some sweet tires.

and I decided to clip my carb spring I wont know till I ride, but burning up and down my alley in a before and after senario made it feel like the power came on faster.

This must be an illusion though as clipping the spring only affects the fall off of the RPMs - as far as I know - this apparent faster revving makes the bike feel likes its got more pep or less flywheel...

Clipping your spings lets the slide and needle move up faster letting more fuel in.
