Try it robb, I want to see what it does on the 500's
Consider it done.
IF YOU HAVE A JET KIT IT COMES WITH A SHORTER SRING OR DOES IT NEED TO BE SHORTER THAN THE JET KIT SPRING.
The jet kit spring is softer and it allows the needle to come up faster. By cutting a factory spring you are makeing it softer. Don't cut your jet kit spring.

the dealership by where i live told a guy to cut thirteen coils out of his and it would give it more trottle response,by thirteen coils you count the top four then nine more that is where you cut it at. this is like a homemade jet kit
I'm confused, you say cut 13 coils off the spring but then you say count down to 13 then cut. Which one is it? It seems that cutting at the 13th coil would be better than cutting 13 off. Would this work on a '04 Foreman and how good is the throttle return when you let up on it?
I did it on my 04 last night and it does make a difference. As for your throttle return it is just fine, just like normal. I dont know about the 13 coils but the spring is 4 1/2 inches long and I cut 2 inches off. Hope this helps ya.

Jason
thirteen coils from the top cut it there,he said it would work on an honda
Ya thats right, I just went out and counted the 2 inches I cut off and its 13 coils. If ya have a tape just measure 2 inches and if not count your 13 including the 4 that are stacked together at the top and then 9 down.
If it makes that much of a difference I may have to try it and see, i could always buy a new spring if i don't like it. Thanks for the tip guys!
Good luck, I think you'll like it.
I dont know, I dont think I wanna try it.
I will give it try also, a replacement spring is only $10. Thats not to bad to test a cheap mod.
Let me know how it does Terry. I said i was gonna do it, but at the last
minute... i chicken out.
Come on now Carl, I already did it. Plus if it doesnt do anything for you or you can't tell a difference then it aint gonna hurt anything leaving it cut.
Alright then...i will do it. No more bein' chicken.
Good, be sure to report back when your done.
I'll do it Saturday when i go ridin'. No sense in doin' it now just to have
them sit in the garage for a couple of days.
nice forum huh....yea i cut my stock spring in half and i took off my resonator bottle and covered it with a cap....HUGE DIFFERENCE...!
What is the Resonator bottle? Where is it? I have probably looked at it
a 100 times & not known what it is.
