Anybody with some instructions on doing this? My luck, would take apart wrong thing and tear something up.
Ok, thanks Railroader, now to get the nerve to actually do the cutting.
Ok, I did it. Wasn't too bad. Have not tried it out as of yet, but will give it a try out within the next week. We shall see if it helps, but had no problem before actually with stock throttle. Hope I don't regret it. If so, will order a new spring. Thanks for the help. Lots of rain and storms lately and to wet here to ride at home and since Hurricane Rita, yard is still pretty tore up. We got a direct hit here with Rita and still a mess. Trees fallen everywhere and had to bring in more fill dirt after cutting trees and don't want to tear up yard any more than it is. Trying to get back to pre hurricane status before another hits. Thanks for the help.
I cut 13 loops out of the spring which is about 2" worth. I tried it today riding up and down the street a few times. Don't know just what I expected, but can't really see a difference. Feels about the same to me from stop to start, excel performance, or anything else. Did not appear to hurt anything, but can't say I can see anything on the plus side either. Will try more in the field next time I travel to East Texas for some trail riding on my deer lease.
I put the cut end down. I did take some needle nose pliars and bent the cut end up to insure no sharp cut end would cut into the spring seating spot. Can't see where it would really make a difference which end it goes however. Maybe someone else knows, but thought it would be safest to make the bend on the end.
Don't understand, I tried again and cannot see a difference. Guess I was expecting too much?

it's not that you get more Hp at all but just a much more responsive throttle ya know??my rancher had great power before but it is now really responsive to hitting the throttle now after clipping the spring.how much did you cut off and is your jetting dead on? I know my jetting is right on and maybe that's what made it seem so noticable.
I cut off 13 coils which is about half of the spring. I wasn't expecting more hp. Don't know really exactly what to expect but cannot really feel a difference either way. Did not hurt anything though. When I get up to the East Texas woods, will try more but here at home riding down a canal bank, cannot tell anything. Throttle responce before seemed good but will give it another chance when I make it up to the woods.
