It wont affect anything as long as you come to a stop before changing from neutral to reverse
Very simple design and clever. Worth the price overall and love mine. I use it all the time and backing up is a snap.Found this on EBAY

If you are referring to the ebay thing. You will love it. So simple design you will wish you would have thought of it, even though I did not actually look into why the red button made things work. However, so simple, it was worth the price I paid for gadget and life is so much simpler. I used to have to backup, move forward, back up and then go forward again to make a turn with little space and hated it with my Honda. I have the ES shift and is akward to do with pushing in the red button, pull brake and shift using one hand to accomplish. Would have been easier with a foot shift but I bought an ES shifter. I highly recommend the bypass if you want to bypass and easily remove the bypass if wanted and install again in a few seconds.I'm IN!!
I just ordered one of those things! That dang reverse button is so aggravating....ESPECIALLY when I'm holding my beer! I gotta PUT THE BEER DOWN, mash in the button, pull the brake, put it in reverse....the whole while Shane is yelling....BACK UP!!!
I'll be in BUSINESS NOW!
THANKS!
