Crankcases don't have to split to replace it ... Rear cover must be removed you can either take the engine out of the frame or remove the rear swingarm ..
so does it pull out towards the rear after i get the swingarm off. is there a clip or something that needs removed before it will slide out? sorry for all the questions, and yes i have a honda manual for the bike, but i'm not seeing how to remove the output shaft. thanksCrankcases don't have to split to replace it ... ah ha!!! now i get it. i just hope i don't have anything else broke and i'm not really sure where the shaFt is broke, now that i know for sure it can be done without the cases being split i feel much better.i plan on tearing into it this coming weekend and figureing out a parts list.probably some seals and things to replace as well as the recoil gasket and the shaft itself.so is there a chance of fragmented shaft materials getting into the engine oil?The rear cover holds it in ..
well, the machine has an estimated 75 hrs.i was coming up up a short creek bank and lost traction and was getting some wheel hop and just felt like i hit a brick wall, then there was nothing,no more riding,me and the 7 yr old boy walked out the three miles to get a lift to get the eiger to tow me in.i got it tore down tonight though and orderd my shaft and seal it buggerd up ,hope to be riding sunday.it only took a hour or so to get it down to where the shaft comes out.i'm only going to need a shaft and 1 oil seal so i am feeling very good about that. total cost $57.00 plus $10 gas money to run to the honda shop in paducah ky (35 mil. 1 way ) sure wish i had got the 4wd,but i paid $3750.00 otd for a new 2wd foreman.so i guess i'm still ahead at the moment....How did it break? Freak riding accident or quality malfunction?
About how many hours you got on the machine?
Inquiring minds want to know. I have the same year and model.
Thanks,
DK
the u-joint is undamaged.i guess i will go ahead and get the gas tank off it this evening and adjust the valves while i'm waiting for the shaft.Thats wierd that you broke the output shaft and not the u-joint.
WELL you are welcome to come and ride with me and my family.we ride almost every weekend.next saturday we plan on a pretty long day on the trails.my uncle is coming in from indiana,he was going to ride the foreman, but if i can't get it back together we may not be able to ride.my boss may let me use his rancher and i can let danny use my eiger.......i live in vandalia. but we hunt down by brownsfield so i know about where you live. i wish we couldload up the bike and take us down there to go find some trails cuz i would fun to be able to ride alday and not hit the same trail trice. but we dont know where the trails are at.
well,i will just have to wait and see if it comes in. here is the part #... 23611-HP0-670 if anybody knows how to check it for availability.the thing was broke so clean i think i could weld it back together..it would probably end up braking and bust a case with my luck..A lot of the parts we order are superceded to a new number but we still get the parts with the new number on the packing list .. You don't have to wait for superceded parts to come in... The shaft must have been back ordered... And if it was back ordered you may wait longer than next week ..
