I don't know but mine does it when I want to shift and it don't. I have the ES model, I don't know why an S model would do it.
MINE DIID THE SAME THING, DEALER SAID IT WAS THE ANGLE SENSOR.

You need to count the number of blinks. There is a chart in the service manual that tells you what to look at depending on how many times the display blinks.
BINGO...Someone mentioned angle sensor. My Rincon gear indicator would show " -- " and the bike would stay in a neutral position and not shift. I had this replaced 3 times under warrantee and they kept replacing the angle sensor and it fixed it. Now it doesnt do it anymore..but this was the problem... or should I say this is what they kept replacing to make it work. If it is under warrantee..have them replace it
You will have to do a code retrieval on that bike and count the flashes ..

The TRX650 Rincon doesn't have an angle sensor ..
Thanks for the help everyone!!!
Then what could have been the part that they keep saying was under the seat that was going bad. Maybe i got these parts confused...
what does it mean when it blinks 3 times? mine does it and starting to get worse last night i unpluged the plug on the side of the carb left it off while we were stoped pluged it back and it finaly let me change gears for a couple of minutes
I was told by a very reliable source that the 05 rincons do have angle sensors in them it is the 06 rincons which are fuel injected that dont have them
3 flashes is "angle sensor system"...

Nope no angle sensor in a Rincon..
Is it only the ES models that have an angle sensor?
When I took mine to the shop for it's first oil change and check up I told them it did that. They told me my clutch needed adjusted. When I picked it up they told me that it was so for out of adjustment that they were suprised it ever shifted right. Soooooooo I'm wondering if you guys need to check into your clutch and see if it needs adjusted.
I have an 05 Foreman 500 S and I to had the gear indicator go blank yesterday when I got to the riding place, after I rode around for awhile then the gear indicator came back on and worked fine the rest of the day. Then today as I was finish washing it of and went to pull it into the garage the gear indicator went blank again. The only thing it show is two - - where the gear number is suppost to be until you shift into 4th gear then it shows the number 4 in the indicator spot. There is nothing else flashing or blinking, it just show two dashes (- -) the gear indicator spot. Everything else works fine.
It's a code of somekind bud!
