I have a 2000 Honda Foreman TRX S that is losing charge when driving. Had it running for over an hour and it just flat out quit, no juice nothing. Battery was down to about 8 volts. Bike will not run with battery disonected. After a very brief charge voltage in battery is back up to 12.4 volts. I checked the battery when running and it is only at 12.4 volts. Seems as though it does not charge. I suspect the CDI, voltage regulator or stator. Any ideas before I start buying parts I may not need. Battery is a Lithium and when I press the test button nothing comes up.

Thanks

Sounds like your new battery is defective or there's a pretty major drain in the electrical system. That's pretty rare with Honda quads, are there some aftermarket parts involved or accessories that connect to the 12 volt system?
OK, I tried a different battery and it was losing charge, not as quickly as the other, never the less losing charge. I tested the stator and all checked out there. Next checked the regulator and that checked out as well. Over a year ago, I replaced the oil heat sensor and the fan module with chinese parts. I do not see any significant increase in volts at the battery terminials when I start the vehicle. I would think it would crank up to 14.4 after the initial start up and then the stator kicks in. I guess my last check will be the ICM. I ordered a new one (chinese) that should be in anytime. New ideas?

After taking a break away from the issue I did a little more trouble shooting. The issue was the regulator. I checked it and under diode on my multi meter one of the three was bad. Tried a regulator off another machine and mine was putting out 14 volts when running. Something so simple and an easy fix after a month of frustrating trouble shooting. I must admit, I had another bike to use so this was not on top of my list. Thanks for all the help.

OK, still working on that electrical issue. Ordered a new regulator and at battery was still only at 12 volts. Tried regulator from another bike and was at 14.4 volts so I assume the new regulator is crap. Go to do a dynamic test on the stator and with it disconected the bike will not run, battery showing output of 12 volts. Waiting on another regulator to arrive. Also had ordered an new ICM and when I installed that the bike would not run. How could it be possible that it was faulty as well. Stay tuned, regulator should be here Monday but the stator issue still has me confused, I should be able to test for output.
