at full throttle my exhaust makes a popping noise...?

probably just need to fine tune your jetting and all. mine will do that when im WFO.

this may be stuipd, but was the quads eng warmed up enough? mabe just a little more cold blooded than when every thign was factory? my 400ex is that way. my .02

99% sure it is with the carb. cover some of your intake up and rev it up if it runs worse you are not getting enough air, if it runs better you are getting too much air. you can adjust all that with the air/fuel mixture screw. when i adjusted mine i just put the 4wheeler on car ramps and layed under it and adjusted it while it was running. go to the stock setting for the jetting, turn the screw IN untill it runs a little choppy, then write down how much you truned it. go back to the stock setting, turn the screw OUT untill it runs choppy, then write how much you turned it. then all you have to do is figure up what the setting is between the two extremes and that is where you will want your bike to run at. hope this helps.

that sounds like a killer plan but the only thing i can turn the a/f screw with is one of those flat screw drivers that you use to fix eye glasses...

it is tiny...no way for me to reach under there with out burning the skin off of my arm frin the hmf...

i used a small short screw driver and it worked good. a eye glass screwdriver would proubly work too. i was able to reach under there without getting real close to the exhaust, if you wanted to you could get a rag or something underthere just incase you did end up touching the pipe. what i did is, put it up on the ramps and get under it and find a place you can get your arm up in there to adjust it, then turn the bike off. you will get really good at it i could get mine all adjusted before the pipe got too hot. BTW wear safty glasses because dirt will fall on you.
