if you do this i would advise putting a washer in place of the thermostat to restrict waterflow this allows the water more time to cool in the radiator if not the water will flow so fast it will not cool and you will have the same problem. cutting a pop can bottom off and making a 1/2 inch whole in the center works good. not that i would know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol by the way you can make different size wholes in the washer to accomediate your desired tempature.....

I want it to flow AS COOL AS POSSIBLE. Also i dont want the washer to dislodge in the tubing. Is there something holding that t-stat in place?
it sets on a bevel but put a little permatex on it just in case
How big of a washer and why cant i let it flow freely without the washer?
The coolant needs a little restriction to allow it to stay in the radiator long enough to let it do it's job and cool it off.
What size washer and what size hole do you think it needs?
summit, moroso, and several other performance car parts man. make these specifically for this reason but you will have to modify it to fit i suggest the 1/2 inch hole size. personally i would just cut hte bottom of a pop can out to fit it. but I don"t have the patience to wait on a part to get in that"s simple to make
Any other tips?
I would leave it in place. If it's not doing it's job, replace it with a new one. The engine is engineered to run at a certain temp. and the thermostat and fan do that. I wouldn't change a thing.
Im with moose!!!!
on our race cars we take the t-stat and gut it (take out plunger and spring) then use that for the restriction.
