I am ordering the HMF Utility pipe Friday. But its the loudest out. The HMF QS1 is supposed to be relativly quiet. There was anothe rpost on here discussing it.
I read the post, but was really wanting to know about the sound of the pipe, I really like my stock sound.
I got the loud hmf pipe.
the procircit on mine sounds like a 400ex
Does anybody know the difference between the ecosystem"penland" pipe and the regular hmf eco system?

how much louder ya think the utility pipe with the quiet core is compared to the ecosystem? and hp differences?

trugrit- i think i read you had the ecosystem for a while right? guess you didnt like it that much since you changed
The Penland and Ecosystem are two different pipes. I do not the technical differences between the Penland and Utility pipes. But if you want a quiet one don't get either. Both are over 104-105dbs at WOT. The ecosystem did give a power increase but I wanted more. The Eco at WOT is about the same DBs as the other pipes at idle, @ 96dbs.

From what I understand the Quiet core cust the pipe down to around 98dbs and will give you near 1/2 the power, similar performance to the Ecosystem.

IMO the little gain of the ECO is no treally worth the near $300. But if that is your only option you'll have to go w/ it.
the **** with it i am tired of researching i just ordered the utility

found it for $196 @ <a href="http://www.gopartsdirect.com/" target="_blank">http://www.gopartsdirect.com/</a>

then i went and ordered the quiet core and jet kit from highlifter.

I figure if it is super gut wrenching loud i can put the quiet core in but at least i have the option. plus both of them was like $230. way cheaper than the ecosystem.

expect major post's about jetting from me in the near future only carb work i ever did was on a 69 vw bug when i was in highschool. And **** that was over 12 years ago!
I just let the local motorcycle shop jet mine. It wasn't cheap but it was dead on. After riding this weekend (first long ride w/ the Utility pipe), the spark plug looked good. Maybe a tad rich. It may need a 1/2 turn in on the mixture screw. I am going to ride it again and see how the plug looks. It runs great though and you will feel the increase in power.

Its a DJ 170 jet with the clip on the middle notch and I have the mixture screw 2.5 turns out, but it may need 2 or 2.25 out.

If your getting the Dynojet Kit, the instructions are very easy to follow, an dit will tell you the recomended settings. After seeing the instructions I probably would have attempted it myself.
i would also call hmf and just see what they recommened on what jet to use.
It will also be interesting to see after it is jetted for the hmf what will happen when i put the quiet core in? will it restrict enough air to effect the jetting? just thought of this. That will suck if everytime i use the quiet core i have to adjust he carb.
:

maybe i will go post this on highlifter and see if anybody has already wen through this.
i am sure you can just adjust the mixture srew instead of rejetting it everytime. But i do think it will run richer if you put the quitcore in.
Finally got my HMF today so when i get outa here i get to put my mechanic hat on. it is tuff staring at this new pipe all day and not able to do anything with it!. plus i get my first real life carb jetting experience.(when i actually find that little needle) wish me luck i have a feeling i am going to need it.
