Recently inherited 96 Foreman 400. Noticed the red oil temp light did not temporarily light upon turning key on as should be the case. Went through the manual steps (& those suggested here) & determined to be faulty fan control module (no reaction when grounding oil temp sensor wire, fan would spin when going direct from harness to battery, ect.) Didn't want to pay oem price, so ordered cheap Caltric. In the meantime, I read about the method for "repairing defective fcm in oven". So I take a hair dryer & heat the original fcm. Plug it back in & it works as it should (red light works as it should when turning key on ( turns on & then fades after a few seconds) & fan & red light work when grounding oil temp sensor wire). But after it cools off, everything ceases to work. Fast forward to Caltric arrival. Red light doesn't light upon key turn. Grounding oil temp sensor wire spins fan, but no red light. They send another Caltric fcm - same result. Any ideas why the red light will not work with new Caltric fcm?

I would guess , because the Caltric is junk --- I'd run a toggle switch to the fan ---- I got a 450 , having a custom fan control module being built right now and I am installing a automotive fan controller on my 300
