I've got a slew of 350's and 350D's now I've picked up recently.

As I understand it, the TRX350's in 86 and 87 use one CDI

The 87 350D uses a different CDI that is ONLY used on the 1987 350D

The 88-89 350D's use a third CDI
Is your 87 a TRX350 or TRX350D? Should be a label on the front of the frame in the center. or you can simply tell by whether or not you have a fuel gauge in the fender (the D stands for digital fuel gauge)

Fenders might have been swapped at some point, so I always look at the sticker.
