What size are you looking at? I have a hard time believing they are the same price. A radial is definately a plus, but usually they cost alot more per tire.
go with the XTR if you can spend the extra bucks

I am looking at 27's and they are $373 for 589 and $399 for XTR, not that much difference, I just want to get the best tire. Are the XTR's as good as the 589 in mud?
i have seen 589's in mud and they aren't that great unless you cut out every lother lug...and if you have to do that then what is the point...

i have a set of maxxis mud bugs...so far since i have gotten these tires i haven't had to get pulled out of any holes...

27x10x12 front
27x12x12 rear
stock rims

i paid $200 for them, got them fomr a guy on this website...slightly used.
Take a look at the Kenda Executioners. They're a lot like the 589.I think they are a great tire at a great price. You don't hear much about them, but I'm very pleased with mine.

Thats kind of alot for just tire, at least just to me. I got 27" Mud Lite XL's on ITP black delta steel wheels for $444. That said $399 is what my buddy paid for his 27" XTR's. They, the XTR's have a very similar pattern as the XL's. From my experience with the XL's and what I have seen and experienced of both the 589's and XTR's, I would get the XTR's.
I have the ITP589's and I like them alot. They always stay clean and the only time I get stuck is if I bottom out. They also pull good in reverse their not that heavy. Even at the mud bog I go to they did not gum up. If you go on ebay you can get a set of 27" ITP 589's ship to your door under $400.00 Do some research and you will find out through the magazines and what people say. But good luck everybody has their own preference. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPO3pz9D7sE
I have ITP 589's 27" and have never been stuck. They are aggresive in the mud and ride good on the trails.
FYI, 589's measure short! Here is a link to some reviews...

Executioners measure short too,but I went up one size taller than stock and still gained some clearance.
do the mudlites measure true to size?
Thanks guys I went with the XTR's, $398.99 shipped to the door off EBAY. I'll let you know what I think after I get them mounted, should be here Wednesday and riding Saturday .
