Hi I am new here,I have a 05 400AT and getting 11 blinks on the display.I was wondering if this means the ecm was bad. This is the first rancher I had so not sure whats wrong. It will not come out of first gear and in reverse it spits and sputters. Any thoughts. thanks for the help.

I have the same problem only 6 blinks...indicating a bad ECM. I have replaced the ecm, shift motor, angle sensor, esp and auto shift switch and lcd screen and still nothing, still sputters in reverse and wont come out of first gear. does anyone know if there is a mechanical issuee i should be looking for?
I just want this thing fixed...there have been many posts on this topic but noone has had a solution. the service manual should be in this week but i just dont understand what is going on. any help would be great.
Thanks,
Harry

Wow, it's like I'm reading my own story. I'm going down the same path of angle sensor replaced, shift control motor replaced, and now considering the ECM!!!

Man, does anyone have some help on how to troubleshoot this issue?

I still have 12 blinks on the gear position indicator, and 4 flashes on my 4X4 light.

What to do, what to do??? Shift position sensor??

Code #4 selectable is "system voltage" ..

Code #12 Hondamatic is "ECM motor drive curcuit"

Thanks!!! Much appreciated, i'll check the wiring this weekend to see if I'm getting the right signal. I tried the initialization without the shift control motor installed and the motor didn't actuate, so I'm fairly sure there's no signal. Blowing the 30amp fuse is an indication I might have a wiring grounding against the frame possibly?

The 4X4 indicator light flasihng 4 times is "system voltage". Is there anything specific to check there?

an update, to my problematic not working with a s**t Honda.
Replaced the following:
1. angle sensor, code 6 no longer flashing.
2. shift control motor (still have code 12 on the shift position, and 4 blinks on the 4X4 light)
3. traced all the wiring for connectivity and voltage per the owners manual, still have the flashing lights as noted above.
4. replaced the ecm today, and nothing has changed.

WTF is with the erroneous codes? What can I possibly do now?

I really need some advice, or I fear this will be first and last Honda I will own.

I'm still using the quad in limp mode to plow snow. no reverse, just 1 speed forward. It will stay in 4X4 for awhile, but it keeps kicking out. From time to time the machine will find neutral as indicated on the heads up display, but as soon as I start driving, it goes back into the trouble code mode.

I've also noticed my winch only works intermittently. I have to wonder if there is a system voltage issue for some reason?

advice, help, guidance, etc. much appreciated.

Alot of 400AT problems can be traced to the battery. Or if all looks good there it may be the valve at the front of the engine clogged or stuck. But usually this just causes a clutch slipping sensation and doesn't throw a code. Have you tried to see if the shift buttons have water in them? After installing each item, did you reinitialize the ecm? There is a very specific procedure for this not like the others.

Code #4 is throttle position sensor..
Thanks man I went on and got the repair manual off the net for like $5 for the downlaoded version. I read it and found that out but the thing is I dont want to have to replace it at all. I called my local dealers and the cheapest was $110! IS there anywhere else I can find one for alot cheaper?

Can you explain further your comment above in bold? What valve? I have the service manual in front of me as well BTW. At slow speeds my 400AT seems to not want to crawl very well, does seemingly slip from time to time and then with a shot of throttle, it'll pick up again. I suspect I have some clutch glazing happening but the the bike otherwise runs fine and I don't want to tear into it after only 1200 miles. I do alot of slow crawling/riding from time to time.
