28's on an 06 Rubicon

I noticed that some of you have 28" tires on your Rubicon. Does this cause any rubbing? I already have a 2" lift kit on it so would I be ok with 28's? Also, I've been calling around the local dealers and their saying that even with the lift I might run into issues when turning. Any truth to this? Any first hand information would be appreciated.

DEPENDS.....Couple things here:

Depends on the tire not all tires are true to size, and also depends on if they are on factory or aftermarket wheels. Ex. I put on 28" Mudlites on my 06 on stock wheels and had extra clearance with no rubbing at all!! Then put on aftermarket wheels and 27" Laws and they rub on the fender brackets up front at full lock mostly with weight towards the front. 28's will work with either bending in the bracket or getting HL fender kit but you'll be starving for power in the thick stuff!!

28"tires on Rubicon

The 28" Outlaws will rub a little with a lift kit. I had a 01' Rubi and put a fender kit which was a waste of money. I now have an 05' w/after market rims and 27" Outlaws and they dont rub. I am going to 29.5's. Take your fender brackets off and bend them to desired position. And a Rubicon with a clutch kit will spin the @#$% out of 29.5 Outlaws.
ive got liftsprings and lift kit and i have never had any rubbing issues with my 28" laws. i have a friend that just have a lift and he had to trim his plastic 1/8" to make the fit on the back

Why were the fender brackets a waste of money? Just bending the brackets does the job?
ya we took them brackets off took the chop saw and added like 1.5inch of round steel and made it flesh with fender... works get if u got a welder

Thanks for the info guys. I have Mudlites on now so I think I'm going to stay with that tire....just in a bigger size. Any suggestions where to buy 28" Mudlite XL Wheels and rims at a reasonable price? I've contacted the dealers up here and none of 'em carry anything larger then a 27". They also said that anything larger than a 26" voids the warranty so I don't want them to know I'm putting these on. We don't have the luxury of going to a differnt dealer up here. They're kind of scarce.

Anyways, the information helped me out. Thanks again.
