I was putting a new battery in my 500 and as soon as I had both terminals connected, the fan powered on. The motor had not been running so it was not hot. The key was turned off, so there shouldn’t be any power getting through to the fan, yet the fan came on. When I turned on the key, nothing showed on the display and it wouldn’t start, or shift gears or anything. Prior to putting in this new battery, my battery was not holding a charge and so I would jump start the atv, but it would run with no problems, unless I turned it off in first gear, then I would manually shift it down to neutral, and then have to jump it and then it would run again with no problems. Any suggestions on what might be wrong with it?

Well not a good idea to run it with a dead battery...Jumping it probably didn’t do it any favors either. You probably welded a few relays together...your battery has been drawing max amps from the charging circuit, or worse, became a direct short to ground.
