I'm looking into buying a 2007 foreman 500es only downsides are the float seems to be stuck, its quite rusted and it only moves in 4x4 (rear wheels have no power what so ever.) Do I need a rear drive prop shaft? and does anyone know how hard of a job it is and what other parts I might need.
Pours gas out of the over flow whenever petcock is turned on.
Story behind the four-wheeler the seller bought it sight unseen off a friend who got it with a farm he bought, He had a rancher of the same year so when he saw it pop up he jumped on it but rust ended up being more then he wanted to deal with aswell as the 4x4 issue he had told me he would take $1000 for it.

It’s hard to say what is broken without looking at it. Splines for the ring gear could be wiped off the axle, the hubs on the ends of the axles could be stripped, gear teeth could be gone.

If it were me, I’d suggest getting a service manual if you don’t have one, and take it apart.

I received a message from him after a week or two of not even talking about it and he told me he looked into it and its the rear axle shaft which is only 70 bucks, do you know if I need anything besides the axle shaft to fix that? are there any seals or special tools id need?

If your axle splines are shot chances are the ring gear splines they mate up to are also shot.

Check left axle bearing at the hub. They tend to wear more quickly than anything else.

If you need help/ detailed instructions try atvhonda.com. Most of the regulars from here went over there and don't post here anymore.

I don’t think it requires special tools. Ring gear may or may not be ok. If it were mine I’d plan to change bearings and seals.
