I have a 2004 TRX400 FA which had an error code 6 which has been resolved by changing out the gear change motor (Internal magnet had broken off and damaged the internals) I now have an error code 5 for Swash plate stuck. I have worked my way through the manual however when i go to turn the extension shaft from the gear change motor to the reduction gear (I believe it is only meant to turn 9 times in ether direction) it will turn and stop anti clockwise but you can feel it jump the teeth and when you turn it clockwise it just keeps turning. Has anyone ever experienced this as i believe i have teeth missing of my reduction gear as the swash plate indicator is not moving ether and am not really looking fwd to splitting engine to investigate.
It sounds like you may have damaged the reduction gear in your TRX400FA when you were repairing the gear change motor. The fact that the extension shaft turns freely in one direction and not the other, and that the swash plate indicator is not moving, suggests that there may be missing teeth on the reduction gear.
In order to properly diagnose the issue, it will likely be necessary to split the engine and inspect the reduction gear. It is possible that the damage occurred during the repair of the gear change motor, or it could be a separate issue that was not related to the repair.
To fix the problem, you will need to replace the damaged reduction gear with a new one. This will likely require disassembling a portion of the engine, so it is important to carefully follow the instructions in the manual and use the proper tools.
If you are not comfortable performing this repair yourself, it is recommended to take your ATV to a trained mechanic who has experience working on these types of vehicles. They will be able to properly diagnose the issue and make the necessary repairs to get your ATV back up and running.
