I have a Rancher ES that won't shift down into reverse. It will shift up and down through the forward gears but won't shift down to reverse. It will shift manually onto reverse. Anyone had this problem or know how to fix it. Thanks.

Check the reverse switch wire to make sure it is plugged in .. It is at the rear bottom of the engine right beside the reverse lock-out lever ..

Here is a picture of it ..

The plugs were dirty. I went to move the bike and it wouldn't go into any gear using the buttons. I hosed off the electrical connections and it started working. Thanks alot Honda Mechanic your my HERO.
I have that same problem on my 05 Honda Foreman but after I run it or about 20 mins. it's fine. I think the cables are just frozen since it has een so cold out and my atv is Clean no mud!

Check the cable under the engine
turn the idle down some. it might b reved to high..
same happened to me...was just a loose and dirty cable...
honda rancher es 350 will not go into reverse

The bike will not go into reverse manually or with the lever. I looked under the bike and the cable dose not move the lever located underneath. When I put the tool on the shifting shaft on the left side starting from neutral it will not shift either. Could this be that the shift fork is broken? not sure how it works. It feels like there is something preventing me from pushing it into reverse with the bike running or off.
Welcome to the forum.

If the lever underneath will not move then the machine will not go into reverse. You might try adjusting the cable at the handlebar and see if you can get it to pull the lever on the back of the motor.

There is a mechanical arm inside the motor and the lever on the back of the engine (where the cable attaches) moves that arm away from the shift drum inside the engine. Unless the lever is pulled by the cable, the arm prevents the shift drum from moving into reverse.

I have the same exact Honda yr every thing and it does it to mine ever since I've owed it 2012 sometimes it works great even in winter for plowing but its nov and like the last 2 mnths or so it stopped working I cant get it too shift at all I heard rain causes it moisture. But how do I adjust a clutch and I gotta check the end of cable like that guy said I have that shifter tool that works but pain in the butt.
