I've got a 2001 Rancher 350 ES that I picked up dirt cheap. It started and ran with a bit of engine noise, but bogged under any throttle. I replaced the carb and now it runs well, but smokes and has an engine noise that I hope is the wrist pin and not a bottom end bearing. Surprisingly, the ES shifts quite well.

Here's my question, if I try to run this through deer season and take it easy on it, how much worse could I mess things up? I'm already planning to do a top end (at least) after deer season is over.

An perhaps a part two. Is there any reason not to do a big bore conversion when I build it? Are there any cons to that?

Oh, one more thing, it has been snorkeled, but I'm working to undo that as I don't intend to water ride.
