2000 rancher es probs

My brother owns a 2000 rancher es. Having power problems. Gone trough 3 batteries. Dead after it sits for a while. He changed the stater already. Switched voltage regulaters. It will start, shift up and down but no reverse. Anyone have any ideas? could it all be in his shifter switch?

If it won't go into reverse you should check the cable that you pull to get into reverse.

If the reverse lock-out cable is working properly then the wire is off the reverse switch .. It's at the bottom rear of the engine ..
