02 foreman shift problems

I have a 02 foreman and it will not shift with the es buttons. The battery is good and I’ve checked all the connections for the es. I can hook the shift motor directly to the battery and it will work but nothing when I try and shift it with the buttons. The display is flashing the bad shift motor code. I tried a different shift motor from a 01 foreman I have for parts but it does the same thing. Anyone have any ideas or recommendations I haven’t tried? Just wanna try everything before I buy a new shift motor. Thanks

Finally figured out that I had a problem in the the shift part of the computer. I bought a bypass wire harness that bypasses the cpu and the angle sensor and reroutes the shifting through to relays. Installed it and now it’s shifting like it should. Only thing different is the gear indicator flashes. This worked so far for mine hope it can help someone else.

What you mean shift part of computer
Have a similar issue on a 2001. It shifts fine when I start it up, and shift to 1-2-3-4-5. However, sometimes it will not shift back down. It sounds like it is trying though, and it actually "clicks" each time I hit the shifter. It is worse when the engine is cold. If I stop the engine, and then just turn the ignition on without starting it, I am actually able to shift down to neutral. I wonder if the battery is getting bad somehow. It has been a long while since a battery change. Thoughts?

where did you order the kit from i have a 2006 trx500fga4 i cant seem to find one
Bypass harness is the way to go. You can pick them up cheap. Just have to be careful when shifting so you don't throw it into reverse while you are still moving. I replaced 3 angle sensors that failed every time, even the OEM. I figure it's the ECU honking it up so rather than spending the money on a 20 year old ECU I just bypassed it. Happy trails!
