01 TRX 500 Choke vs Primer

944 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  JeffinTD
I have a 01 TRX 500. It's been beat on. But runs like a champ and doesn't leak. Long story short there is no choke hooked up totally gone. I have been using the primer bulb on the carb as a choke. Is this ok for long term? I'd like to get the choke back on but I need to order a new steering shaft first and really don't feel like tearing the front end apart again.

As long as it starts I doubt you’d be hurting anything, but if it were me I’d replace the enricher and choke knob.

I just replaced the carb. What's an enricher?
That's the correct term for the part that does the "choking" - the piece that the cable attaches to in the carb.
Yeah, basically a little plunger that opens or blocks a passage that lets in extra fuel at low rpm. Does the job of a butterfly type choke, just in a different way.
