Replacing ECU on 2003 Recon ES

Hi All,
this is my 1st post here. Thanks in advance for sharing all your knowledge!

We have a 2003 Recon fourtrax ES. We started having difficulty shifting and finding neutral to start the machine. We eventually realized the "1" light flashing was a code --tracked that down to a faulty shift angle sensor. We replaced that and almost immediately got a code for faulty "ECU"

So I have 2 questions before I proceed to install a new ECU:
  1. How do I access it? I can see the component under the instrument panel, but the manual does not help explain how to remove the fairing (all the plastic attached to the front).
  2. Is there a sequence I need to follow to activate the new ECU?
Thanks so much in advance!
