Hello, About 1 month ago, we bought this 2004 Recon 250ES. It was running great, starting right up, no issues. All of a sudden it won't start. I checked and fuel is getting into the carb. The spark plug is producing spark but seems dry and I don't smell gas on it. I have tested and adjusted the valves. I even replaced the carb with a new carb because I thought maybe it was a bad carb. Same issues with the new carb, nothing changed. I did a compression test and it is at 30psi. I know that is low, but what would be your thoughts on why this all of a sudden has this issue, and there were no signs that this was coming on? This is the second used ATV we have bought in 8 months and the second one with a low compression issue. The first one was a Polaris that I think was having problems from the get go so I wasn't surprised to have this issue. But this Honda was running great. Just seems like we should have noticed a harder start or something as the compression was being lost. I just don't know where to go from here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

readjust the valves again and see if it helps (one of them may have tightened up enough to keep one of the valves open a little ) also what color was the plug when you pulled it out the first time after it not starting ?

The plug was blackish. It actually looked good. I took some Emory cloth to it and cleaned up the nib a little before putting it back in, but plan on replacing it just to eliminate that. But again, it was getting good spark. I will look at the valves again, I thought the one to the front of vehicle was a little tight and I loosed it up, and we loosened the back one a little, but it didn't appear to be as tight as the one in the front.
