Runs and moves but acts like brakes are applied

2001 rubicon 500. Rolls freely when not running.
When running and in gear, any gear, F,R,D1,L, ESP, hit the throttle, hold throttle wide open, it will move, barely, but only at wide open.
It acts like the brakes are being applied. The engine lugs badly, bogs down while machine is trying to overcome whatever Ida holding it back.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated

Sounds like the transmission is shot and locking up.

I just brought it home, it has sat not used for about a year.
The guy that gave it to me said he was riding one day and it stopped moving.
He disconnected and reconnected battery and it worked again but only for a short time, maybe 100 ft.
Then he quit using it.
Even in neutral it doesn't seem to be revving as it should

So here's an update. Believe it or not, I'm making progress, I started checking into the no power/bogging issue with the simple checks. Cleaned the air filter, checked the spark plug, checked the valve clearance. Exh were a little loose, Int were TIGHT. I adjusted the valves and wow, what a difference. It revs up nice and clean, it will actually hit the rev limiter now. Dropped it in gear, it moves, actually moves pretty good, esp, d1, d2, R all work, however after riding it for a few minutes it went into a neutral state and was making a whirling noise. Let it idle til noise stopped, hit the throttle and away it went. This repeated several more times. I'm guessing it's the sprague bearing????
The previous owner wasn't much for maintenance. Could dirty, overdue for an oil change have an effect on the sprague??

Yes plus the transmission operates on oil pressure so dirty or low oil can effect it.

So what is the best product and procedure to flush and clean the oil system?

i would change oil and filter and check the oil pressure, before changing put a can of seafoam in oil and run it a little while to get it warmed up then change oil and filter. If oil is really bad it may be a good idea to pull oil tank and clean the screen inside of the tank. If the hondamatic is shot the engine will have to be pulled. If you do have bad hondamatic and fix it, make sure to replace the oil pump, they had a problem with the relief valve sticking open and causing low oil pressure then the hondamatic would over heat causing bearings to fail on early ruby's.
