Here's a new one. 06 500FM key won't shut it down

So my 06 has developed an interesting new issue.

The other day I was working in the yard and noticed the green Neutral light was on. Walked over and the key switch was in the off position.

Went inside, got the key, went out and clicked the switch back and forth a few times to see if anything changed. Nothing.

Swapped in a different switch I had in the shop. No change.

Unhooked my winch contactor, just in case it might be backfeeding somewhere since it's hooked directly to the battery. No change.

Unhooked the negative terminal on the battery. When I hooked it back up, it stayed powered down for a few minutes, then the display came back on again.

For now I have the 30A main fuse pulled so it doesn't run down the battery. Anyone have any particular place to check? It's pretty much my toy, so frequent mud and water use.

I would start at the fuse panel. Pull fuses, clean it and check wiring.

First off, can you start the bike?

The ignition controls the power to the coil on these bikes, right?....but you can start it? So that low voltage signal from the ignition to the coil is not being interrupted by turning off the key.

Green neutral light is on... maybe that’s something to do with the shift position switch, the one that’s low on the bike by the rear shaft. Does the light come on and off when you move the shifter or is always on?

I’m still learning these bikes but maybe water in a connector is grounding it out.

Basically it acts like the key is on even with the key off. Starts fine, runs, drives etc. Kill switch kills the engine, but no way to turn off the meter without pulling the main fuse or unhooking the battery.

As of this morning, it now has stopped powering itself up, so key off, display stays off, key on, everything works fine. I do still have the issue of the oil change light coming on every time the ignition is turned on, and the clock will not stay set. Both of these lead me to believe this might be a meter issue. The bike has been sunk but there is no sign of moisture in the meter. Display is still crystal clear.

I'm going to leave it alone for now and ride it. I can live with the oil change light and clock not staying set. If I start having other issues I'll probably swap one of my extra meters in and see if that changes anything.
