Nasty squeal on on start up

Hi all purchased a 2012 Foreman auto 4x4 ....sight unseen .....when i got it home started it and it was a bit smokey but seemed to sort itself out when warm when i turned it off then turned it back on it gave an engine squeal for a few seconds then dissapeared (gonna try link video of it) any thoughts?

My first guess is the one-way clutch on the starter.


Second guess, water pump. Edit: After thinking about the speed of the squeak, I tend to think water pump.


Edit: Time for the Harbor Fright stethoscope. New low price! $3.79!

Gonna shoot out and buy a stethescope tommorrow ..... try.... $30 nzd over here .....sigh..... we pay too much for tools

Probably works out &makes up for it with healthcare and medicine, we have to pay for the rest of the world down south.

Wonder if HF would ship to you? Of course that might be expensive to some locations. I shipped a motorcycle seat to The Netherlands, shipping was about equal to the purchase price, but I think they also have some extra fees and taxes. Customs form was lengthy too.

I’ve seen engine mounts/exhaust mounts make noises like that, sounded just like a bearing. I suspect yours is starter drive, but you might wedge a bit of wood between the frame and various mount points and see if it changes.
