Battery

What’s the best battery for a 08 foreman. Put a 5k winch in it and the stock battery sucks when you engage the winch....

your atv electrical system is NOT made to handle the power demands of a 5k winch
so NO basic ATV battery that fits will handle things
you MIGHT want to try adding a deep cell marine battery and mount it on the atv's rack some place, and then keep it on a battery maintainer when NOT in use!
not what you want to hear, but your atv only has so much electrical power to run things and power things

a 5 k winch needs a massive wire to handle all the amperage!!! mrbb is right an atv battery even with engine running running will not handle it. deep cycle marine battery is about the only way to handle it.

I added a car battery to mine because of the constant winch use when plowing, extra weight is a bonus also.....

Sounds like a nice accessory to add to the trailer ball if you could make a stout box and I've seen good high amperage quick disconnects. I have one one a 500w linear.

I have a 5K Viper Max on one of mine. Cables are 5 gauge. Normal battery. It's overkill for sure, but was on there when I got it. It's always pulled fine, haven't had any issues out of it.

I just run a Moose AGM. I only have a 2500 lb winch but it goes up/down hundreds of times plowing with no issues. When I hook it up to the maintainer after, it is obvious the battery did not need a charge -- it cycles through its usual startup modes and goes right to "maintain" mode every time. Never needs to stay charging.

AGM types are the best, well worth the extra money you might pay.

The Magnapower AGM on my street bike is 6 yrs old, I paid $80 with a discount at Advance. I was only getting 1-2 years out of wet cells.

Bought the AGM on the Foreman last year, paid $35 online through Sears. It sat outside under a tarp all winter, no tender. Started right up the other day. The two I have are 220CCA.

AGM = Absorbed Glass Mat
