Ring/Pinion Set

I’m having to replace the ring and pinion gears on my 02’ 450 due to some of the teeth being ate up from mud on the pinion. I know everyone says if you replace one better replace both. My first problem is I can’t find a OEM ring (due to being unavailable apparently). Where is everyone buying they’re gears for these atvs now?

On these straight cut gears I wouldn't hesitate to only replace the gear you need, provided the other one is in good shape.

That said, it's more cost effective to just find/buy a used or even new diff than to buy the gears, given the cost.

Sorry it took awhile to reply been busy! Just looked at hondapartsnation.com they show they have it! I usually use motosport.com. My ring looks fine, pinion is what needs replaced, would y’all change the ring as well even though it looks great? Just keep seeing people suggest doing both at the same time.

I'd just replace the pinion if the ring gear looks fine.

Helical cut gears you need to replace as a set.

Straight cut gears I'd only replace the pinion. I would check your ring gear splines that contact the axle though. Make sure they're still squared off and not sharp/triangle shaped teeth. If so, replace the ring gear too (or just buy a new diff)
