If you dont have a long flat small screwdriver you can take a metal clothes hanger and beat one end flat to make it a screwdriver. It's not the perfect screwdriver but it should do the job.

I found a screwdriver that was close to what I needed and made it work by grinding in down. I'm able to retract the shaft so think I'm in good shape. I haven't figured out how to lock it but as long as it retracts I can have someone hold it up while I put the new chain on, then let it loose. You have been a great help and hopefully saved me some extra work....thank you...

If you go just that little extra it will lock it.

So too cold here to do much in my unheated garage but have the parts I hopefully need to fix her up. Opened an account with Partzilla and added these items:

cam sprocket
front cover gasket
one way clutch bearing
oil seal for front drive

also D.I.D. timing chain from Ebay

Finally has warmed nicely and got out to start my repairs. My parts should be here Monday and wanted to get things cleaned up and ready to install. I got the gasket cleaned from the cover and engine nicely. Also with some brake cleaner got the gunk removed from the bottom of the cover and engine cavity, kinda messy. So hopefully ready to go, I did take a pic of the chain and tensioner now I have the clutches removed. I can actually wiggle the chain even with the tensioner fully extended, don't think that's good.....

Bet you'll be amazed at the power it has when you're done, that chain has been stretching a long time. It's like the frog boiling slow in a pot.

Ya I've only had it since late summer but never really seemed to have alot of ooomph. I have never had an ATV but from what I have seen it was not doing what I thought it should for a 450. I tried pulling a few logs from my woods when it was running and for a 4WD just not a powerhouse. That chain is pretty loose huh? I did get the tensioner retracted so don't have to pull the head, thanks to @toodeep....
