So I have a bad stator in my bike, whenever it gets to warm it stops charging, I bought a new one and tore the bike down till I could access it easier, I got the pullcord and that contraption off but I'm stuck at the recoil pulley gear, the thing right before the stator case, I know the Manuel wants you to use their part but I want to know if you can get away without it or taking it somewhere, I have everything I need except that tool.
Or if the tool is relatively cheap then a good place to buy it.
thanks!

Garage
Do you have an impact? That's the easiest way to loosen the bolt.

Talking about holding the gear from moving while you break the nut loose?

I've done it two ways, in a pinch .... Stuff a rag between the gear teeth. Slip a penny between the teeth, the penny is softer than the steel, will bend 90 and not damage the gears.

I'll use a new penny for each procedure, pic below is from a stator I did twice. Cost me 2 to do it the second time.

Impact is easiest.
