Removing pinion

What's the easiest way to remove the rear pinion? I've got the socket to remove the lock nut, I'm talking about removing the nut that's inside the sleeve. Would it be best to put it in a vise or is there a trick to hold the pinion in place while I remove the nut? Thanks in advance.

I'm to the point where I'm considering just buying a used one off Ebay. Any suggestions on how you made yours?

Thanks, still not sure how to keep the pinion/collar from turning while you're trying to take it off though

Lock your axle in a vise, slide the final drive on with the ring gear and hit the nut with an impact while holding the final drive. They make special tools to hold that stuff but you can get creative and work around it.
